100 new trolleybuses to be obtained in Almaty
Almaty city is to acquire 100 new trolleybuses next year, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
As part of the development program, the sustainable transport network with a focus on the development of public transport is being formed in Almaty. This year, the city’s bus fleet has been renewed with 1,150 environmentally friendly buses, including 550 by private carriers. In 2024, a ban for private carriers to purchase diesel-run buses is to be introduced, said Yerbolat Dossayev, mayor of Almaty, during a briefing.
According to him, 100 trolleybuses have been acquired in the city for the first time in 11 years. 100 more are set to be obtained next year with the city’s trolleybus fleet is to be fully renewed.
Dossayev pointed out that the city’s underground passenger flow has risen to 100 thousand people.
In general, the public transport passenger flow has risen to up to 1.5 million people a day in 2023 from 1.2 million in 2022, added the mayor.
