11-member family killed in road crash

JEDDAH. KAZINFORM Eleven members of a single family have died in a road crash on the way to Qassim, orphaning a 10-year-old girl who had opted to stay back with her grandmother in Shuqairy, Jazan, where the family had spent Eid.

Their vehicle had crashed into a tanker on the Shaqra-Qassim road. The family included seven girls, two boys, their father, Shaue Yahya Abuajra, and his 23-year-old second wife. Abuajra was an employee with the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Qassim, said one source. The dead youngsters were aged between two months and 18 years. Civil Defense Department officers had to toil hard to extract the bodies from the wrecked car, ARAB NEWS reports. Citizens and expats have complained about the narrow Shaqra-Qassim Road, which has witnessed several accidents in the past. In another accident, seven people, including a six-member family, died in Al-Laith when their vehicles collided into an oil tanker due to bad weather on Saturday. "The vehicle crashed into an oil tanker that was coming from the south," a traffic officer said. The charred bodies could not be recognized.
