11 more branches of foreign universities to open in Kazakhstan in 2025

Kazakh Science and Higher Education Minister Saysat Nurbek revealed that 31,500 international students arrived in Kazakhstan last year, Kazinform News Agency reports.

34 prestigious universities opened and will open their branches in Kazakhstan. 23 were unveiled last year, and 11 more will open their doors this year, he said addressing the Digital Almaty Forum.

He announced Cardiff University which ranks among the world’s 200 highest-ranked universities, one of the best research universities in the UK, as well as the University of Exter, University of Glasgow, and KAIST will unveil their overseas branches in Kazakhstan.

He added De Monfort is the first university to open its campus in Almaty. For the past three years, it attracted over 1,000 students, most of them are international students from Turkiye and Russia.

The Minister stressed that 31,500 foreign students arrived in Kazakhstan to pursue degrees last year.

IBesides, branches of foreign universities were opened in 2022 at the grounds of the four regional universities, and eight more in 2023 to train engineering specialists.

Notably, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin joined the ceremony of unveiling the branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at the Dostoevsky Omsk State University in Russia via videoconferencing last November.
