12 kids hurt on Riyadh mall ride

RIYADH. March 1. KAZINFORM Twelve children were injured after falling from an amusement park ride at Panorama Mall in the capital city, said Saeed Al-Ghamdi, a spokesman of the Red Crescent in Riyadh.

The governor of Riyadh, Khalid bin Bandar bin Abdul Aziz, and his deputy, Prince Turki bin Abdullah, visited the injured children in the emergency section of King Saud Medical City.

Al-Ghamdi said six of the injured children were transferred to King Saud Medical City and six to the university's hospital. He said two individuals were seriously injured. The others had minor to medium injuries.

Sources said doctors were satisfied with the progress of the injured children.

An investigation is now under way into the causes of the incident by the Civil Defense and Riyadh police.

Media spokesman of the Civil Defense in Riyadh, Captain Mohamed Al-Hammadi, said the ride at the mall has been closed down until further notice, Kazinform refers to Arab News.

Al-Hammadi said the children were on a ride that moved up and down vertically.
