122 cases of bacterial meningitis registered in Kyrgyzstan in 2023
Over the 11 months of 2023, 122 cases of bacterial meningitis were registered in Kyrgyzstan, which is 2.4 times more than in the same period in 2022, the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of the Kyrgyz Republic said, Kabar reports.
According to their data, high incidence rates were registered: in Bishkek - 63 cases (7.3% per 100 thousand population), in Chui region - 22 cases (2.7% per 100 thousand population) and Osh - 5 cases (2 % per 100 thousand population).
In other regions, the epidemiological situation is stable: in the Osh region - 13 cases (1.1% per 100 thousand population), in the Jalal-Abad region - 6 cases (0.6% per 100 thousand population), in the Batken region - 6 cases (1.4 per 100 thousand population), in the Naryn region - 4 cases (1.5% per 100 thousand population), in the Issyk-Kul region - 3 cases (0.7% per 100 thousand population).
Data by age:
- children under 14 years of age – 58.8% of the total number of cases;
- from 15 to 19 years old – 10.9%;
- from 20 to 29 years old – 13.4%;
- 60 years and older – 5%.
However, over the 11 months of 2023, 15 deaths from meningococcal infection were registered.
