1,396 people convicted for 2022 January events - Prosecutor General's Office

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan unveiled the number of people convicted for 2022 January events, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The investigation into the 2022 January events is ongoing, therefore as per the Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Kazakhstan it is not subject to disclosure. At the same time, persons against whom sufficient evidence was obtained on their involvement in these events have already been brought to criminal liability. To date, 1,396 people have been convicted, including 574 ones for participating in and organizing mass riots (12 people for organizing mass riots), the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office informed.

2,960 weapons were stolen during the tragic events, of which more than 1,000 were found. The search for the remaining weapons is underway, the press service added.
