14 measles cases detected among train passengers in Kazakhstan

The country’s measles epidemiological situation stabilizing, chief state sanitary doctor on transport Zhanar Urazalina told Kazinform News Agency.

She said for the past two weeks measles cases decreased by 15.7%. Measles spread prevention measures are underway to further improve the current situation.

Above 237,600 children under 18 years old received measles vaccines as part of the catch-up vaccination. Over 38,400 people under 30 years who have been in contact with those infected were also vaccinated against measles.

As of February 21, 1,330,247 or 88.7% of people were administered measles vaccines, the sanitary and epidemiological control committee said.

Since the beginning of the year 40 confirmed measles cases were detected among the workers of the facilities subordinate to the department of sanitary and epidemiological control on transport. 31 measles cases or 77.5% cases were recorded among railroad workers and employees, and 9 cases or 22.5% recorded at air services. Besides, 14 measles cases or 82.3% were detected among train passengers, and 3 cases or 17.6% on air transport.

The chief state sanitary doctor on transport urges all to follow preventive measures like, hand washing, wearing face masks in public places, and maintaining social distance.
