16.7bln m³ of water supplied to Caspian Sea since Jan 2024
16.7 billion cubic meters of water have been directed to the Caspian Sea from the Zhaiyk River since the year beginning, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
This year, the volume of water in the Zhayik River exceeded the average annual normal level.
As the ministry noted, the river flow is formed depending on the volume of water supplied from the Iriklinsky reservoir located in the territory of Russia.
“Since the year beginning, the representatives of the ministry have held 28 meetings with their colleagues from Russia, China, and Central Asian countries to discuss the issues of transboundary rivers. The talks on regulating water volumes in the flooding period will be held in an enhanced mode," Official Spokesperson of the Kazakh Ministry Moldir Abdualiyeva says.
As previously reported, according to official data, the Caspian Sea has shrinked by 176 centimeters since 2006.
