18 children drown in flash floods in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD. August 21. KAZINFORM At least 18 children were drowned due to flash floods in River Bara in northwest Pakistan as strong wind followed by heavy downpour hit various parts of Khybertribal agency, Peshawar and other parts of the northwest on Friday noon, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
According to reports, 18 children were swept away by flash floods out of which six were rescued, who were stated to be in critical condition while the rest were missing.
The floods caused in River Bara due to heavy rain pooled in Spera Dam and the children who were taking bath in the river were swept away by the water when the spillways of the dam were opened.
According to the eye witnesses over a dozen children drowned of which six were rescued while the rest have become victim of the flash floods. The rescue teams were searching for the drowned children, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
