186 measles cases confirmed in Zhetysu region

186 (72.9%) out 255 registered measles cases were laboratory-confirmed in Zhetsyu region, Kazinform Agency reports.

155 or 83.3% of confirmed cases were detected in children under 14 years old, four in teens aged 15-19 years old, and 27 in young people above 20 years.

Measles is a contagious disease. The virus remains active and contagious in the air or on infected surfaces for up to two hours. The average incubation period for measles is 7-21 days. Infected people can spread measles to others from four days before through four days after the rash appears. 

The only way to fight the disease spread is a vaccination.
