1999 National Census in Astana: 13.5% growth in population

ASTANA. February 18. KAZINFORM The first National Census in Kazakhstan took place during the period of February 25 – March 4, 1999 in conformity with the Government?s resolutions.

Following the results of the 1999 National Census the population of Astana stood at 319324 citizens, (men ? 148607, women ? 170717). In comparison with the 1989 Census the population of Astana grew by 13.5% which is connected with its status as the capital city of the country.
