20 years ago Kazinform Agency was the first to inform of declaration of state independence of Kazakhstan
On December 14 the Supreme Council under the chairmanship of S. Abdildin debated the bills aimed at improvement of the tax system. It was decided to set up a working group to have the draft laws polished up. A package of new laws on taxation was expected to be revised at the current session.
Later the Council proceeded to debating the draft Constitutional Law "On state independence of Kazakhstan". Deputy S. Sartayev made a report. Those present stressed the need and timeliness of adoption of this historic document. Though, bearing in mind the critical importance of the submitted draft law and the will of many deputies to express their opinions on this issue, the next session held on Monday, December 16, proceeded with the further discussion of the bill.
The bill was adopted then. The Supreme Council declared the state independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Henceforward our republic is an independent, democratic and constitutional state. It holds the plenitude of the power within its own territory, determines and pursues independently its domestic and foreign policy.
Nursultan Nazarbayev heartily congratulated the parliamentarians and multiethnic republic on this historic event.
