200bln m³ of water supplied to Aral Sea due to introduction of water-saving technologies in Kyzylorda region
In the past irrigation season, the agrarians of Kyzylorda region managed to conserve 200 million cubic meters of water due to the implementation of water-saving technologies. According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, this volume of water was supplied to the Aral Sea, Kazinform News Agency reports.
It should be noted that water-saving technologies were applied on 55 thousand hectares of the region’s rice fields whose total area is 84 thousand hectares. Approximately one billion cubic meters of water were supplied to the Aral Sea in year 2024 irrigation season which is three times more compared to 2023.
Around two billion cubic meters of water have been directed to the North Aral Sea since January, a press release reads.
The Ministry says that the total volume of water in the sea has reached 22 billion cubic meters.
“In addition to water diplomacy and close cooperation with our colleagues from the Central Asian countries, the implementation of water-saving technologies plays an important role in refilling the Aral Sea. Their use enables to save hundreds of millions of cubic meters of water and refill the sea,” Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov says adding that the amount of governmental subsidies for the introduction of water-saving technologies will be raised from 50% to 85% in the nearest three years.
