2012 marked by multiple events in Kazakhstan

More than 700 protocol events with the participation of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev including foreign visits, working trips to Kazakhstan's regions, meetings and sessions, international and republican forums, conferences, meetings with the public have been held in 2012.

During the year, the President has been working with the members of Parliament, regularly met with the chairmen of the Parliament's Chambers and leaders of the parliamentary factions.

The list of the President's activities included above 170 international meetings and events, including 17 foreign trips in the framework of bilateral relations, as well as participation in international summits and international forums.

Nursultan Nazarbayev held 34 press conferences and briefings, gave 10 interviews to leading foreign and domestic media.

In general, the President of Kazakhstan signed about 6.5 thousand documents, including 106 laws, 237 decrees, 82 instructions, 11 protocols, 3 583 internal documents, 2 160 analytical materials and 276 peoples' appeals.

In the political sphere the past year was marked primarily by a number of Kazakh President's strategic initiatives aimed at further determination of the promising ways of Kazakhstan's development and the preparation of the state for the transition to the next level.

Thus, the President's Annual Address "Social Economic Modernization - Main Vector of Kazakhstan's Development" of January 27, 2012 laid a solid foundation for further improvement of social and economic sphere.

The program article of Nursultan Nazarbayev "Social Modernization of Kazakhstan: Twenty Steps towards a Universal Labor Society" became the basis not only for the public policy, but in fact, for the new philosophy of social development of the Kazakh society.

The strategic vector of the state's renovation had further ideological development in the President's state-of-the-nation address "Strategy Kazakhstan-2050": New Political Course of the Established State" of December 14, 2012.

The key initiatives of the address are the development of the modern competitive economy, administrative reform, decentralization of the state government by the partition of power and expansion of local government, modernization of the legal system, formation of a new social policy on the principles of the Universal Society of Labor, strengthening patriotism.

Kazakhstan showed positive dynamics in the social and economic development in 2012.

The country became more authoritative on the international scene. One of the most significant events was the participation in the II Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, where world powers again recognized indisputable leadership of Kazakhstan in strengthening the global nuclear safety.

On the sidelines of the summit Nursultan Nazarbayev held a number of important bilateral meetings with the presidents of the U.S. Barack Obama, Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak, Russia Dmitry Medvedev, Finland Sauli Niyniste, and Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.

In September 2012 Astana held CICA Jubilee Session. The organization was significantly expanded. Its new members are Vietnam, Iraq, Bahrain, Cambodia, and Bangladesh and the Philippines as observers. This fact speaks for the growth of authority and importance of the organization.

One more achievement of 2012 was Astana's winning the right to host EXPO-2017 international exhibition.

Foreign trips of the Head of State to Malaysia, China, Turkey, Austria, France and Britain ensured positive dynamics for Kazakhstan's foreign policy.
