242 patients treated for measles in Kazakh capital
As of November 1, 242 patients, including 174 kids, were treated for measles at hospitals in the Kazakh capital Astana, Kazinform News Agency cites the city’s administration office.
According to Aliya Russtemova, head of the public health department of the Kazakh capital, high measles cases were reported in children’s pre-school organizations, schools, universities, medical facilities, and military units.
In nine months of 2023, the routine measles, rubella and mumps vaccination coverage in the Kazakh capital stood at 77.5% with 22,245 kids receiving vaccines. The revaccination coverage of 6-7 year-old stood at 78.8%, said the speaker.
96% of the total measles cases were reported among unvaccinated children and adults with the unknown vaccination status in Astana.
Due to growing measles cases among kids, the number of beds was increased to up to 500 at the general state children’s hospital no.3.
The state infectious diseases center deployed 100 beds for adult patients with moderate and serious measles condition with 100 more on standby in early October in the Kazakh capital.
