250 measles cases recorded in Karaganda region
Karaganda region confirms daily 10 measles with the highest number recorded in unvaccinated children under four years old, Kazinform News Agency reports.
In October, the number of cases doubled against the previous month, acting head of the Karaganda region sanitary and epidemiological control department Gulzhan Baigutanova said.
As of November 8, 350 suspected measles cases were registered, of which 268 were laboratory-confirmed. 85% of cases were recorded among children not vaccinated against measles.
Measles is a highly contagious, serious airborne disease caused by a virus and poses a threat to those unvaccinated. It can lead to serious complications. The only way to prevent measles is vaccination.
Over the past nine months, 12,027 one-year-old babies and 11,871 children aged 6 were vaccinated against measles.
