50 eco startups supported as part of GCIP-Kazakhstan, Ecology Minister
The national forum as part of the Global Clean Technology Innovation Program (GCIP) with support of UNIDO took place in Astana, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Addressing those present Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Yerlan Nyssanbayev said Kazakhstan is one of the first Central Asian countries to join the GCIP, the program that provides an opportunity to integrate into the global GCIP platform covering 16 nations.
He said GCIP-Kazakhstan aims to help the country take the lead in green technologies. The project is developed by the International Center of Green Technologies and Investment Projects subordinate to the Kazakh Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry.
50 out of 200 startups passed the GCIP- Kazakhstan acceleration programs in 2023-2024. Two out of five national GCIP- Kazakhstan winners last year ranked among the top six at the Cleantech Days 2024 global contest in Vienna, while Ozen M startup took second place in the Most Promising Business nomination.
The minister reminded that one of the key tasks is to increase the role of renewable sources of energy in the total balance of energy up to 50% by 2050. To achieve this goal 11 projects were selected for the past two years in the acceleration program.
He also stressed the need to introduce modern approaches to waste management.
27 projects for efficient waste management were selected in the acceleration program for the past two years.
As is known, 610 billion US dollars are needed to achieve carbon neutrality in Kazakhstan until 2060. The minister said the development of Kazakhstani innovative solutions will reduce the said volume of financing due to the increase in the share of local technologies and developments.
