500 decisions of state bodies against investors were turned down – Kazakh Prosecutor General

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Prosecutor General Berik Assylov. Tokayev was briefed about the rule of law in the country as well as the results of the supervisory body’s work in the priority areas, Akorda reports.

Prosecutor General Assylov spoke about the support of investment projects. According to him, 445 investors, who funneled 8.3 trillion tenge in the country’s economy, were provided with legal assistance. Under the ‘Prosecutorial Filter,’ 500 decisions of state bodies against investors were turned down to be agreed on. The measures taken enabled to increase the level of investor confidence to the governmental institutions.

Tokayev was informed about the work on the return of assets from abroad. This year, the bodies of the Prosecutor’s Office have repatriated assets worth 262 billion tenge, including 205 million US dollars from abroad. The asset management company was given properties and shares in enterprises worth 82 billion tenge. Agreements were approved to return assets to the tune of 450 billion tenge.

The implementation of the Head of State’s instruction, announced in his state-of-the-nation address, regarding the return of agricultural lands that were illegally provided and are not currently used. As Assylov said, in the past four years, 17 million ha of land have been returned and involved in the turnover; the shortage of pastures has been reduced by four times from 29 to eight million ha; the rights of 11 thousand shareholders have been restored.

Tokayev also heard a report on the course of the investigations of a number of high-profile criminal cases.

In addition, the Head of State was briefed about the ongoing fight against drug-related crimes. It was informed that since the beginning of the year, 1,573 cases of drug trafficking have been detected, with over 15 tons of drugs, including one ton of synthetic drugs, being seized. Around 60 drug laboratories have been liquidated, the activities of 13 organized criminal groups were suppressed.

The Kazakh President instructed to step up the work of the bodies of the Prosecutor’s Office to enhance the base guideline ‘Law and Order,’ outlined in the Concept ‘Just Kazakhstan,’ focusing on ensuring inevitability of punishment for any wrongdoing.
