500 Kazakhstanis annually succumb to crimes in Russia
ASTANA. KAZINFORM "Above 500 Kazakhstanis annually succumb to crimes in Russia," deputy Prosecutor General of Russia Yuri Ponomarev said taking the floor at the forum of heads of near-border prosecutor's offices in Astana.
"Annually above 1,500 Kazakhstanis are brought to trial in Russia and more than 500 of them succumbed to crimes. However, many of them illegally stayed in the territory of Russia," he noted. According to him, lack of efficient migration control system and employers' chase for cheap labor may lead to increased number of irregular migrants. "It is a good medium for shadow economy, corruption and other crimes. Such crimes may provoke interethnic conflicts, crimes of extremists on the ground of interethnic hostility and terrorist attacks that is extremely dangerous," he added.
