65 villages in Pavlodar region at risk of flooding

Seven districts of Pavlodar region, namely, Bayanaul, Aktogai, Uspen, Irtysh, Pavlodar, and Terenkol remain at risk of flooding. 43 rural settlements with a population of 10,000 people are being monitored as flood risk areas, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Forecasts suggest a high risk of flooding due to snowmelt in the second decade of March. This year the region saw 56% more than normal amounts of snow.

22 more villages also are being monitored due to possible snowmelt floods.

Mets predicted a drop in air temperature to -15 degrees Celsius over the next few days. Snow will fall across the north, east, and south of the region.

43 evacuation centres will open in case of flooding. 616 units of equipment, 42 floating crafts, and 198 motor pumps will be deployed to handle possible flood aftermath.
