70 people detained for unauthorized rally in St Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG. December 5. KAZINFORM Some 70 people were detained in an unauthorized action against the elections in St. Petersburg, spokesperson for the police in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region Irina Petrova told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

“The participants in the rally were detained for the non-fulfilment of legitimate police demands and violation of the rules of mass events,” the police spokesperson said. The action ended after the most active protesters were detained. Only journalists, policemen and pedestrians remained on the square in front of the Gostiny Dvor metro station. All detainees were brought to the police stations in buses for making protocols about administrative offences. The police keep working at the incident site to secure the law and order.

The protest action began at 6 p.m. Moscow time on the square in front of the Gostiny Dvor metro station. The participants in the rally were chanting the slogans “Our elections are farce.” Several dozens of demonstrators gathered for the illegal action. The Other Russia movement organized the rally. The movement was planning to hold similar actions in Moscow.
