71 draft laws are under consideration in Majilis, says Chairman Koshanov

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Chairman of the Majilis Yerlan Koshanov, during which he was informed about the work of the parliament’s lower chamber on legislative support of the reform course of the Kazakh leader, Akorda reports.

Majilis Speaker Koshanov reported that 31 laws have been adopted and submitted to the Senate, of which 15 the Head of State signed, since the beginning of the year. Among them are the Budget Code, laws governing exchange trading, tightening punishment for drug related offences, introduction of the Unified Voluntary Savings System Keleshek, court reforms, improvement of administrative laws and others.

Currently, 71 draft laws are under consideration. The work is ongoing on the Tax, Water, Construction, Digital Codes as well as draft laws on consumer rights protection, shared construction, development of financial market, military patriotic education, mail, said Koshanov.

Upon the instruction of the President, given at the meeting of the National Qurultay in Atyrau, deputies are preparing amendments to tighten penalties for bride kidnapping.

As part of parliamentary control over budget spending, the deputies heard a report delivered by the Chairman of the Supreme Audit Chamber on the efficiency of state subsidies to agriculture.

The Majilis attaches special attention to the openness of law-making work, engaging the public and expert society. The Public Chamber holds meetings on a regular basis.

Majilis deputies from all party factions and single-mandate deputies regularly hold meetings with their constituents, conduct receptions of citizens and visit regions, said the Majilis Chairman.

Koshanov also reported on the results of the work regarding parliamentary diplomacy, spoke about the projects of AMANAT party – Auyl amanaty, Zher amanaty as well as Karyzsyz kogam, aimed at increasing the financial literacy among the population.
