72 yo man successfully undergoes giant lung tumor surgery in Almaty
An elderly man was hospitalized at the Almaty Cancer Center to remove a tumor in his lung. The CT showed a 10×10 cm massive lung tumor, Kazinform News Agency reports.
According to oncologist Rustem Irsaliyev, the man underwent a radical upper thoracoscopic lobectomy. The surgery was successful. The histology will help select an individual chemotherapy plan for the elderly man.
He added that malignant invasion into soft tissues made the surgery complicated. The three-hour operation was successful. Thanks to the teamwork of cancer surgeons the patient got a chance to recover and undergo further treatment.
It is worth noting that Kazakh surgeons performed a unique 9-hour surgery to reattach cut-off fingers.
