8 die, 10 injured, 54 missing in hydro power plant accident

MOSCOW. August 17. KAZINFORM. Eight people are known to have died and ten others harmed in the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydro accident. Fifty four others are unaccounted for, the spokesman for the Prosecutor General' s Office Investigation Committee, Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

According to the investigators, during repairs in a machine hall an oil-filled transformer exploded.

A criminal case has been opened over violation of labor safety rules.
