8 killed as 21-year-old man stabs people in province near Shanghai
A 21-year-old man stabbed people at a vocational school in China's eastern coastal province of Jiangsu near Shanghai on Saturday afternoon, leaving eight dead and 17 injured, local police said, Kyodo report.
The man, who was arrested at the scene, has admitted to the crime. He was dissatisfied with the compensation of his internship, the police said, adding he was also unable to receive a diploma as he failed an examination.
The stabbings occurred about a week after a car rammed into pedestrians at a sports center in the southern province of Guangdong, killing 35 people, while a series of knife attacks have recently occurred across China, including in the capital Beijing.
In June, a Chinese bus attendant died after attempting to stop a man wielding a knife who injured a Japanese mother and her son in Jiangsu Province. A Japanese boy also died in September after he was stabbed on his way to school in Guangdong Province.
There were no Japanese individuals among the victims of Saturday's stabbings, according to the country's consulate general in Shanghai.
