In the movie - based on a novel by John Michael Green - the female lead is played by newcomer Shailene Woodley, the euronews reports. The 22-year-old actress is having a very successful year; she won the Special Jury Award for Acting at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival for her performance in ‘The Spectacular Now'. Woodley was adamant that ‘The Fault in Our Stars' should not be defined by the illness: "It's a cancer movie that's not about cancer. It's about two kids who fall in love and it shows that cancer does not define you. So when people ask me what it was like playing a cancer patient, I say I did not play a cancer patient. I played a young woman who happened to have cancer but who is also having her first kiss, having sex for the first time, falling in love for the first time, and absorbing those delicious moments that we only are afforded when we're adolescents." Laura Dern plays the heroine's mother and said that it is important to talk about the disease: "Every single person, including my own children, who are nine and 12, have friends with cancer who are going through treatment right now. So I think it gives us an opportunity to have a conversation we might not normally be having, which is, through all of this, how do we celebrate and have gratitude for each." ‘The Fault in Our Stars' is now on general release worldwide.
