Abai region steps up cooperation with Tatarstan

A delegation of Abai region led by akim (governor) Nurlan Urankhayev paid a working visit to the Republic of Tatarstan to cement ties between the two regions, expand partnership relations and develop cooperation, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The delegation consisted of akims (mayors) of the cities of Semei and Kurchatov, businessmen, heads of local government agencies and rectors of universities.

During the meeting with President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov the sides discussed the problems of development of industry, education, tourism, culture, sport, energy, digitalization cooperation.

During the visit, governor Urankhayev stressed that Kazakhstan’s history and the history of the region are inextricably intertwined with the fraternal people of Tatarstan. He also praised Tatars’ contribution to strengthening of social reconciliation and socioeconomic development of the region.

“We are interested in close socioeconomic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation. I am confident that our meeting will be fruitful for both sides and the visit will let broaden the horizons of mutual interaction,” he said.

The Kazakh delegation held talks at the Investment Development Agency of the Republic of Tatarstan and the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry during which the sides agreed to cooperate in the implementation of joint projects.

On top of that, Nurlan Urankhayev and rectors of universities based in Abai region paid a visit to the Kazan Federal University that boasts 18 departments to debate the issues of cooperation and students’ exchange between the universities of two regions.

As part the visit, the Kazakh delegation also visited the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan with the impressive stock of over 3.2 million books and publications.
