Abkhazia closes UN Office for Human Rights Protection
ASTANA. August 13. KAZINFORM Chairman of the Georgian Foreign Ministry's department on international organizations, Sergi Kapanadze met with head of UN office for human rights protection in Abkhazia, a representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Richard Komenda, who held his last meeting in this rank, the ministry reported, Kazinform refers to Trend News.
After Russia's veto on the activities of the UN mission in Georgia, the country has also stopped functioning of the Office for the Human Rights Protection.
The sides discussed the importance of protecting human rights in the occupied territories. The Georgian side highlighted the massive violations of human rights in the Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia and need to preserve these areas for the offices of international organizations, Kazinform cites Trend News.
