Ablyazov found after surveillance of his business partner's ex-wife

ASTANA. August 2. KAZINFORM - Mukhtar Ablyazov, hiding after being accused of stealing USD 6 billion from BTA Bank, former head of the board of directors of the financial institution was found during surveillance after his friend's, the Ukrainian businessman Sergei Tischenko, former wife, according to RIA Novosti.

Ablyazov, a citizen of Kazakhstan, was arrested on July 31 in France near the city of Cannes. The court in Aix-en-Provence is solving the question of his extradition. Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine are looking for the fugitive banker extradition. In this case, there is no extradition treaty between Kazakhstan and France and extradition to Russia is not possible due to some restrictions, and therefore, firstly, the possibility is being considered of Ablyazov's extradition to Ukraine.

"The followed woman's name is Elena Tischenko. The ex-wife of Sergei Tischenko, the Ukrainian business partner of Ablyazov. Last week, she attended a court session. She was brought under observation after she left the courthouse in London and returned to France", the source says.

Media previously called E.Tischenko as Ablyazov's lawyer, as she attended the London hearing as a representative of International Petroleum Services Group Limited.

Ablyazov was arrested at one of the villas in the town of Mouans Sartoux, ten kilometers to the north of Cannes. Ex-banker rented Zenith villa with six bedrooms, a huge park and a magnificent view of the surrounding hills. The police identified Ablyazov through observation of the villa, which was visited by Elena Tischenko after attending the London court session.

Ablyazov, who was granted asylum in Britain two years ago, fled the U.K. in February 2012 after being sentenced to 22 months in prison for contempt of court.
