Additional immunization against measles launched in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan observes unfavorable epidemiological situation for measles with 12,671 case recorded across the country since the beginning of the year. 10,563 of them are children under 14, 354 are teenagers and 1,754 are adults, Kazinform News Agency cites the Ministry of Healthcare.
70% or 8,866 cases were registered among unvaccinated children. 16% or 2,062 cases were detected among individuals with unknown immunization status.
Measles cases have been detected in all regions of the country.
To prevent further spread of disease and stabilize the epidemiological situation in the country, the chief sanitary doctor of Kazakhstan decreed to carry out additional vaccination against measles, mumps and rubella in infants at 6 to 11 months and children aged 2 to 5 years. The vaccination of children under 1 year began on November 6, and vaccination of children under 5 will begin in December.
