AI could put a major strain on power grid, warns Kazakh PM

The use of AI can make up a big part of the total load on the power system as well as lead to environmental impact, stated Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

Speaking to the Digital Almaty 2025 forum, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan expressed concerns about advances in artificial intelligence.

Bektenov drew attention to a number of aspects in AI development that are a matter of public concern.

Among them are the impact of AI on the labor market and professional reorientation, ethical issues, including manipulating public opinion and other risks, environmental impact and strain on power grid, ensuring equal access to AI for all countries and social groups as well as AI control mechanisms, said Bektenov.

Earlier, Kazakh Premier Bektenov said that some Kazakhstani AI startups are valued at 100 million US dollars.
