AIFC Court Moot competition highlights young legal talent: preparing the next generation of advocates
An annual student competition, the "AIFC Court Moot," was conducted by the AIFC Court, offering a unique opportunity for young attorneys to showcase their knowledge and abilities. Students from Kazakhstan and Eurasia's most prestigious law institutions participated in the competition, where they presented oral and written arguments on a fictitious case to the AIFC judges, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
For students, the "AIFC Court Moot" competition is crucial to their professional development. Participants acquire the skills required for a successful legal career and obtain experience working with international legal norms.
Participation in the competition significantly expanded the range of career prospects for the finalists. The demand for Kazakhstani lawyers with sufficient competence to represent interests in the AIFC Court is growing every day. I sincerely believe that we will see each other more than once within the walls of the AIFC Court - only this time as practicing lawyers, said Roman Zhelak, a member of the KIMEP University team.
The competition also helps young lawyers develop key skills such as public speaking and analytical thinking, which makes them competitive in the international arena. As Darina Koyshibaeva, a member of the Maqsut Narikbayev University team, noted: “This competition not only enhanced my oral advocacy skills, but also helped develop the stamina and professionalism necessary for successful work in the legal field. The experience of participating in the competition further strengthened my commitment to the field of dispute resolution, and I look forward to applying these skills in the future.”
The AIFC Court and IAC training center educational program has provided free training on the principles of international commercial dispute resolution and the rule of law to over 3,900 participants since its inception in 2018. Additionally, over 160 students have successfully completed apprenticeships at the AIFC Court and IAC.
We are proud that the AIFC Court and IAC competitions are now in their seventh year and have become an integral part of the curriculum of the participating universities. We hold the competitions to provide law students with a unique opportunity to learn and practice oral advocacy skills in a common law court hearing environment, which are essential for lawyers representing clients in real court cases, commented Christopher Campbell-Holt, Registrar and Chief Executive of the AIFC Court and IAC.
Students from Maqsut Narikbayev University were awarded as the victors' of this year’s cup, and all students who advanced to the final round were granted the opportunity to participate in an internship at the AIFC Court and IAC.
