Airports of Astana and Almaty handle record number of passenger

Kazakhstan observes a 25% rise in the number of passengers handled at airports, transport minister Marat Karabayev said during the government session, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports. 

The number of passengers handled at airports has risen 25% to 24 million (19.2mln in 11 months of 2022). There has been a significant increase at airports in Almaty and Astana with nine million (+34%) and seven million passengers (+26%) handled, respectively. There has been also a 16% increase in cargo handled (130 thousand tons) at airports since the beginning of the year, said Karabayev.

He went on to add that in 11 months of this year the domestic airlines have carried 12 million 300 thousand passengers, a 23% year-over-year increase. The figure is expected to exceed 13 million by the yearend.
