Akmola region and Chevron ink a coop memo on construction of wind farm

KOKSHETAU. July 27. KAZINFORM Akim of Akmola region and the company "Chevron" have signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation on the construction of a wind farm named "Samal" in Ereimentauskiy area, the press service of the regional head informs.

Akim Cosman Aitmuhametov had a meeting with representatives of Chevron company. Deputy Managing Director of the Eurasian division of Chevron Ymir Bonner briefed the akim on major projects and activity areas of the company.

The press service says that the parties met to discuss the project to build a wind farm in Akmola region and issues related to the use of renewable energy sources.

Wind farm will be in 150 kilometers from Astana. The scope of the project includes the design and construction of the wind farm with a capacity of 50 MW. The station consists of 15-30 turbines, inner road, substation, administrative buildings, overhead lines for connection to the power grid and other related infrastructure.

According to Bonner, the project is included in the Action Plan for development of alternative and renewable energy in Kazakhstan for 2013-2020. Its cost is about KZT 36 million, the company plans to implement the project at its own expense. In April of this year, there started working out of feasibility study, the scheme of distribution of power has been agreed with «KEGOC» JSC and confirmed by the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan.

During the discussion the oblast akim supported the proposal of Chevron to include the project in the Industrialization Map. In addition, the support of the head of the region has been received for the issue concerning allocation a piece of land for long term.

At the end of the talks between representatives of the regional akimat and Chevron company has been endorsed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation on this project.

Cosman Aitmuhametov noted the importance of strategic partnerships. "I believe this event will serve not only the implementation of a particular project, but also to expansion of cooperation, and promotion of a number of new ideas and proposals", concluded the akim.
