Akmola region leads nation in nature protection spending

In 2023, Kazakhstan’s nature protection spending total was 610 billion tenge, up 37.2% than a year before (KZT444.5bn), Kazinform News Agency cites the National Statistics Bureau of the country.

According to the National Statistics Bureau, Akmola region led the nation in spending to protect nature – 127.7 billion tenge, making up 20.9% of the country’s total nature protection spending in 2023. Nature protection spending stood at 89.1 billion tenge in Atyrau region, 59.4 billion tenge in Pavlodar region, and 51.2 billion tenge in Aktobe region.

Zhetysu region’s spending to protect nature was the lowest in the country – KZT1.5bn.

It was pointed out that 97.2% of the country’s total nature protection spending fell at industrial companies.

By nature protection activities, energy-saving technologies and energy-efficiency improvement (including RES) were responsible for 33.2% of the total spending, waste management – 21.6%, and air protection and climate change issues – 20%.
