Abish Kekilbayev revives past of Hungarian people - Onaisha Mandoki

On Friday, September 27, Aktau marked the 85th anniversary of prominent Kazakhstani writer Abish Kekilbayevat an international scientific-practical conference, Kazinform News Agency reports.

“Among the works by Kazakh writers translated from Russian into Hungarian, Abish's story "Baigetory"  has a special place. By reading this book, the Hungarians gain insight into their forgotten ancient customs. The Kazakh writer played an invaluable role in reviving the rich cultural heritage of the Kazakhs in Europe, including the Kipchaks and Hungarian communities,” Onaisha Mandoki, a scientist and the head of the Abai Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hungary, said at the event.

The goal of the conference was to promote the legacy of the writer, who embodied the Kazakh spirit globally. The event brought together colleagues, family members, fellow poets, writers, and intellectuals, as well as scholars from Türkiye, Hungary, Azerbaijan, and Kyrgyzstan.

The writer's anniversary coincided  with the III International Theater Festival "Abish alemi" (the World of Abish). Eight theaters from Iran, Mongolia, Georgia, Russia (Tatarstan), Kyrgyzstan, the cities of Astana and Almaty, the West Kazakhstan region, and the Akmola region will participate in it.

The festival jury consists of renowned Kazakhstani actors, theater figures and critics, as well as international representatives.

The audience will also enjoy performances based on Abish Kekilbayev's works, along with dramatic pieces by foreign classics translated into Kazakh by the writer.
