Aktau will twin with Turkish Samsun
The Conference will be held under the auspices of UNESCO and will consider topics such as investments in heritage and tourism infrastructure development, protection and use of historical and cultural heritage in the Eurasian space, etc. The leaders of historical cities, experts in the field of heritage conservation, businessmen, the representatives of UNESCO and the Getty Foundation and other organizations will gather together. It is expected that the event will be attended by about 200 guests. Secretary General of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) Denis Ricard (Quebec, Canada), Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, the first President of Tatarstan, and others have already confirmed their participation in the conference. The city of Aktau is the observer member of OWHC since 2014. The city of the Great Silk Road - Aktau is washed by the waters of the Caspian Sea. About 11 thousand historical and natural objects that deserve the closest attention preserved in the Mangystau region the center of which is Aktau. Guests will be able to visit the underground mosque "Shakpak-ata", which is nominated for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Sports complex "Caspian" will perform etnoaul (etno village), which will demonstrate the ancient culture of the nomadic people. There will be also organized theatrical performance of "Dala sazy" to show the culture, life and traditions of the Kazakh people, exhibitions of museums of Kazakhstan (Hazrat Sultan of Turkestan, Otyrar, Ulitau, Tamgali), Turkey (city of Safranbolu), and Russia (Bulgar). The host-city of the next 8th International conference of Eurasia World Heritage Cities will be elected during the conference. The agreement will be signed on the twinning of Aktau with the Turkish city of Samsun.
