Almaty-based first Kazakh school marks its centenary
Almaty-based No12 Specialized High School named after Shokan Ualikhanov marked its 100th anniversary with a grandiose concert and a historic exhibition at the Palace of Republic, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Minister of Enlightenment Gani Beissembayev, Mayor of the city Yerbolat Dossayev, school teachers, graduates and students participated in the event.
Welcoming the participants, Yerbolat Dossayev read out a letter of congratulation from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"At the time, it was the only Kazakh-language school in Almaty. In fact, the fate of our native language in the past century is closely connected with the history of this school. Despite the hard times, the teachers of this school greatly contributed to the preservation of the traditions of national pedagogy and to the education of a whole generation of intellectuals who served the country's interests. Thousands of school graduates have worked tirelessly for the benefit of our country. Many of them became the pride of our country," the letter reads.
The No 12 High-School was founded by the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh SSR as an experimental educational facility, offering only primary education. In 1936 the institution started functioning as a secondary school.
In 1972, the school became the first in the republic to introduce intensive English language learning program.
More than 70 academicians have graduated from this school. More than 300 graduates hold doctoral degrees, and over 500 graduates hold Cand.Sc. degrees.
Since 2007, No 12 Specialized High School has been ranked among the city's best schools. In 2015, 2017 and in 2020, the school was awarded with the The Best School, The Best Educational Institution, The Best Teaching Staff titles.
In 2022-2023, received The Best Specialized High School title.
The well-known graduates of the school are singer Kulyash Baisseitova, artist Abilkhan Kasteyev, dancer Shara Zhienkulova, composers Nurgissa Tlendiyev, Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov, Asset Beisseuov, Mansur Sagatov, prominent statesmen Askar Kulybayev, Yerkeshbay Derbissov, academicians Orynbek Zhautikov, Bolat Zhubanov, Shora Sarybayev etc.
