Almaty Cycling Club gets Vino's name

ALMATY. August 20. KAZINFORM Akim (mayor) of Almaty city Akhmetzhan Yessimov congratulated Alexandr Vinokurov, the Olympic champion and cyclist, on his confident win in London on Monday in Almaty.

A. Yessimov noted that all Kazakhstanis cheered for the national team and were proud of its triumph at the XXX Summer Olympic Games in London.

"Your victory on the first day of the London Olympics helped our team set itself up for the triumph," A. Yessimov added.

Alexandr Vinokurov, in his turn, thanked akim of Almaty and all people of Kazakhstan for their support. "I am proud I won the first medal, the first gold and, thus, have encouraged other Kazakhstani athletes," the famous cyclist said.

A. Yessimov and A. Vinokurov discussed the development of Kazakhstani sport. Mayor of Almaty announced that the Almaty Cycling Club would be named after Olympic champ Alexandr Vinokurov.
