Almaty holds conference on social consequences of global crisis

sp;ALMATY.  December 7. KAZINFORM  /Daniyar Sikhimbayev/ A conference on social consequences of the economic crisis in Eastern Europe, Turkey and Central Asia has kicked off in Almaty today. The participants focused on impact of the crisis on employment and people's incomes as well as social protection, food security issues, ways and means of solution of the current problems and rehabilitation of economy.

Minister of Labor and Social Protection Gulshara Abdykalikova noted the global economic crisis had influenced all countries including Kazakhstan. She reminded of the situation  at the beginning of 2009 with growing unemployment and dependence on oil and gas production.

In addition the Minister informed the attendees of the package of anti-crisis measures launched by the Government. This package provides for creation of jobs, especially at small and large business enterprises, training and retraining the unemployed people as well as implementation of the program on targeted social care.

The event is organized by the Ministry of labor and Social Protection, UNICEF, UNDP and FAO. Among the participants are the representatives of 13 countries of the world.
