In the face of global warming, issues regarding the efficient use of water resources are especially topical, taking into view situations when one river flows across the territories of 17 states. Currently, experts from the UN Organization are working all across the globe. According to Miroslav Jenca, UN Secretary-General's Special Representative, ?We can see that these issues have been common for this region for quite a long time. The countries are making efforts to find a solution, but there are a lot of open questions and they could become a basis for possible conflicts?. The aim of the regional missions of the UN is to help prevent conflicts which could arise in those areas where the sides haven?t been able to come to consensus for decades. The issues remain unsolved and often cause serious conflict. According to the UN Secretary-General?s special representative, these are all prerequisites for solving this problem in Central Asia as opposed to other regions. According to local specialists, some positive progress has already been achieved during the negotiation process on issues of the usage of the Syrdariya river basin, Kazinform cites the press service of the Kazakh Embassy in India.
