Almaty prospects to host 2022 Olympics: IOC’s view

ALMATY.KAZINFORM - The working group of representatives of the International Olympic Committee visited Almaty for preliminary examination of sports facilities, the press service of Almaty akimat informs. It is known that Almaty claims the right to host the Olympic Games in 2022.

According to the press service, international experts visited the "Shymbulak" ski resort, the"Medeu" skating rink, the "Sunkar" International springboard. In addition, the guests toured the Sports Palace after Baluan Sholak, as well as skiing and biathlon complex. During the trip, they familiarized themselves with the layout of objects, studied topographic maps. At a meeting with the Mayor of the city Akhmetzhan Yesimov the foreign experts noted that Almaty has a real opportunity to host the Winter Olympics in 2022. They stressed that the metropolis has an interesting location in the center of Eurasia, the country has a political and economic stability. In addition, the city has already built sports facilities that meet all the IOC standards. Mayor Esimov informed the experts that Almaty was the first to file the bid book to the IOC. In addition, the technical documentation is under preparation. It will be noted that Almaty competes to host the 2022 Olympics with such cities as Krakow (Poland), Oslo (Norway), Lvov (Ukraine) and Beijing ( China). The final decision on the venue of the Olympic Games 2022 will be accepted on July 31, 2015 at the IOC session in Kuala Lumpur. Prior to that, the IOC commission will visit each candidate city to assess the conditions necessary for the Games.
