Almaty to hold summit of IFAS founder-states
ALMATY. April 27. KAZINFORM A summit of the founder-states of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) is to be held in Almaty tomorrow. All five leaders of the central Asian countries confirmed their participation in it. Within the framework of the summit bilateral meetings will be carried out; Kazinform refers to the President?s press service.

As earlier reported, the ?water relations? among the region?s countries, the Fund?s activity and the issues of formation of a new composition of the charter bodies of the IFAS will be discussed.
The IFAS was created in 1993 by the Central Asian states? leaders for financing of joint practical actions and prospective programs on saving the Aral Sea and ecological improvement of the Aral Sea basin. The founders of the Fund are Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Last autumn Kazakhstan was elected the IFAS chairman for 2009-2011.
