Almaty to host 28th Winter Universiade-2017

BRUSSELS. November 30. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ Almaty will become the capital of the 28th Winter Universiade-2017. This was announced following a vote by Claude-Louis Gallien, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) in Brussels.

Mr. Claude-Louis Gallien said he strongly supported the candidacy of Almaty to host the Winter Universiade in 2017, because this city created great opportunities for this kind of international sporting events. "However, the Universiade is not an event for a couple of weeks. It is needed to do a lot to prepare for the games. In the future you will be able to use benefits from the Universiade for many years, and demonstrate that you can move forward and hold the Winter Olympic Games," he emphasized.

The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a combination of the words "University" and "olympiad".
