Almaty under the gaze of cameras: UVMS boosts city's security measures
The Unified Video Monitoring System (UVMS) project in Almaty is progressing, with 45,000 surveillance cameras integrated to improve emergency detection and urban safety across the city, Kazinform News Agency reports.
“The main objective of the UVMS project is to unite all city video surveillance cameras on one platform to form video analytics in real time and reuse the received video streams for different tasks,” says the Akimat of the city.
Currently, 45,000 surveillance cameras from 603 state and 906 private facilities are integrated into the system. In the second quarter of this year, 300 new "Sergek" security complexes were installed, bringing the total to 1,641 complexes with 9,034 cameras.
Advanced features of the video analytics system will be smoke and fire detection, item recognition of abandoned objects, and emergency situation identification both: natural or man-made. It will also have features for identifying faces, gender, and clothes, therefore improving the general performance of the system in preserving public safety.
