Almaty underground to add new stations this year - mayor

ALMATY. KAZINFORM - Two stations Sairan and Moskva are to be launched at the Almaty underground, akim (mayor) of Almaty city Akhmetzhan Yessimov announced the ambitious plans Thursday.

"I've already made it public that construction of the new stations wrapped up in December 2014. They are being tested right now. If the trial process is successful, the new stations will be added in the first half of 2015. The Almaty authorities spent 8 billion tenge on the construction process," Mr. Yessimov said at a meeting with the population of the city. According to the mayor, more than 24 thousand people use the Almaty underground daily. Over 20 million riders used the metro since it was launched.
