Almaty vows to control essential goods prices

"Latest adjustment of Kazakhstan's national currency will entail specific changes in the national budget and some of our projects, but I assure you that current social programs are to be preserved in full," the head of the Almaty administration said at the meeting.
"Our goal is to sustain the prices for socially important goods here in Almaty. Right after the tenge rate was adjusted, there were attempts to push up the prices for earlier imported goods. With the help of Almaty residents, the city administration assumes timely measures to stop that in a lawful manner," Mr. Yessimov noted.
He also added the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan had signed a memorandum with food corporations and the city administration in a move to fix grain prices.
