SCO summit: Amir of Qatar lands in Astana
The Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has arrived in Astana for the SCO summit, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov greeted the Amir of Qatar at the Airport of Astana, according to the press service of the Kazakh Government.
The State of Qatar has the status of the SCO Dialogue Partner. An appropriate memorandum was signed in Tashkent in 2022.
Last year, Kazakhstan and Qatar marked the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations.
Qatar is an important political and economic partner of Kazakhstan in the Arab world.
In 2023, commodity turnover between the two countries surged almost by half. As per the task set at the highest level, the governments of Kazakhstan and Qatar are currently working on raising the mutual trade to $500 million.
