Annual inflation accelerates to 8.6% in December in Kazakhstan
Year-on-year consumer price inflation picked up 8.6% in December, from 8.4% in November, in Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reports.
According to the National Bank of Kazakhstan, annual inflation accelerated in 10 regions, eased in nine regions and remained unchanged in one region.
The highest on-year growth in prices was recorded in the Kazakh capital Astana.
Annual growth in food prices in December accelerated to 5.5%, from 5.4% in November, with the highest growth recorded in Zhetysu region – 7.9% and the lowest in Turkestan region – 3.0%.
Non-food inflation rose to 8.3% annually in December, up from 8.0% in November. Turkestan region recorded the highest annual inflation rate among non-food consumer price indices – 13.2% and Pavlodar region the lowest – 5.3%.
Prices for paid services in December remained at 13.3% on-year, with the highest growth recorded in Astana – 16.9% and the lowest in Turkestan region – 9.5%.
On a monthly basis, the CPI stood at 0.9% up from a historic average of 0.7% in December 2017-2021.
Earlier, the Bureau of National Statistics' latest data report showed annual inflation in Kazakhstan in 2024 amounted to 8.6%, slowing down from 9.8% in 2023.
