Arkankergen massacre prime suspect Chelakh faces trial today

TALDYKORGAN. November 19. KAZINFORM Today a municipal court in Taldykorgan begins hearings in a high-profile case of a frontier guard Vladislav Chelakh charged with murdering his fellow frontier guards back in May.

As was reported earlier, Chelakh waived his right to a jury trial and counsel at the preliminary hearing.

Yerbol Akhmetzhanov is the presiding judge. State accusers are Dastan Sakenov, Alexander Kiriyak and Kemel Shayakhmet.

The Arkankergen border outpost was found burnt to the ground on May 30, 2012. 14 bodies were found at the scene of the tragedy. Besides, a body of a huntsman was discovered in a hunting lodge not far from the post.

Vladislav Chelakh was charged under nine articles at Taldykorgan pretrial detention center. He is suspected of manslaughter, damage to military property, theft of firearms, theft of personal property of huntsman R. Kim and commander A.Kireyev, and illegal home invasion.
